Student and Faculty Mobility Progamme

Faculty and Student Mobility Program 2010-2011

As a new initiative of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute the Indian Government, under the IX Addendum to MoU, has approved the Student/Faculty Mobility program between India and Canada. The Institute takes pleasure in announcing the pioneering program for the year 2010-2011.

(a) Faculty Mobility

Faculty Mobility for six to eight weeks is designed for Indian/Canadian faculty / academics from all disciplines. Through Faculty Mobility academics and professionals may contribute to internationalization of the curriculum/teaching at their Canadian and Indian host institutions and understand the recent developments in India/Canada. The recipient will be affiliated as a visiting faculty member at the host college, university or research institution, and will teach courses (individually or team-teach), or offer a series of seminars as apart of a course at the host institution.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants will normally be full-time members of the academic staff of a recognized institution of higher education or an equivalent degree-granting organization in India/Canada
Faculty Research applicants may also be scholars at research and policy institutes in India/Canada or professors emeritus.
The faculty member should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent published work with at least 5 years of college/university level teaching experience;
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of India/Canada;
Applications should be routed through the proper channel.

(b) Student Mobility:

The Student Mobility programme is designed for outstanding young Indians enrolled in a Masters Programme at Indian Institutions to take up/ pursue a course or do an internship at selected Canadian colleges/ universities. The program is for highly motivated students who have completed the equivalent of a Canadian bachelor's degree. This programme is for two months (60 days). The recipient will be affiliated as a student/ intern at a Canadian college, university, research institution or organization in the development sector, and will pursue a course (module/part of a course), or undertake a project or internship at the host institution in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements:

Have completed an equivalent of a Canadian bachelor's degree from a recognized Indian university with at least 55% marks.
1. Should have at least some (paid or voluntary) professional or work experience relevant to their proposed field of study;
2. should not have another degree from a Canadian university or be enrolled in a Canadian degree program;
3. applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of India;
4. demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English; and
5. Preferably be in the age group of 21-30 years.

General Guideline for Faculty and Student Mobility:

Applicants should be familiar with the Canadian/Indian educational system. Although Shastri Institute does not require applicants to have a letter of affiliation from a Canadian institution at the time of applying, it encourages that all applicants correspond, in advance, with potential host institutions. If you are selected for an award but are unable to arrange an affiliation or name an institution in the Canada with which you would want to be affiliated, Shastri Institute will help secure placement.

Grant Benefits

The fellowships provide round-trip economy class air travel and monthly stipend as per the travel policy of the Institute.
